It’s that time of year again. The days are shorter, the nights longer, the temperature is dropping. (Unless you live in Arizona. That won’t happen until October.) Which means the return of a beloved treat, Pumpkin Spice. Lattes, Cappuccinos, Teas, chocolate candy, heck I’ve even seen Twinkies! So I decided, why not candied popcorn?
This one was a challenge. Sure I could have used the already made spices, add it to my candying process and be done with it, but then it kind of loses the homemade sense. So I found a recipe for Pumpkin Spice syrup to use while candying the popcorn.
(My first attempt at making syrup)
I boiled the syrup, strained it through cheese cloth to clean it, and came up with a delicious smelling syrup. I wanted to make pancakes to use it shortly after finishing, but alas, this syrup was for popcorn. Pancakes will have to wait.
When you open this jar, you are hit with an overwhelming fragrance of pumpkin pie. Mouth watering, is it Thanksgiving yet?, mounds of whipped topping pumpkin pie. I could not wait to get this on my popcorn. I got right to work. Add, test, add, test, add, test. After so many tablespoons, I was beginning to lose hope. I had the smell down. I just could not capture the taste. I really wanted this formula to be completely homemade. So i kept at it. Let me tell you, it takes a lot of syrup to make this recipe.
(Ta-da! Yum!)
Pumpkin Spice popcorn is made of 100% natural spices and has a mild flavor. It’s not over powering, won’t kick you in the mouth, but you can definitely taste those spices in the end. The more you eat, the more you’ll want.
